Amerie was spotted behind-the-scenes of a brand new promo shoot, possibly for her forthcoming new album which will be her 4th project and her first release on Def Jam:
The photographer she is pictured with is none other than Derek Blanks, who has practically done EVERY promo shoot for the 28-year-old this period. Amerie is seen checking out the final outcome of the photo's just to see whether or not she looked fly. Good job Mr Blanks stays working behind the camera and not in front with his Mr T mean mugging black ass. I'm sure Amerie will look fly once we get to check out the final outcome. Could we end up hearing a new single earlier than expected? One more after the jump for good measure.

R&B SINGERS OUT & ABOUT.....
It appears that the black feathery top has become the no 1 fashion trend among today's top R&B chicks in the SAME month. The first one to rock it was Rihanna who was seen wearing one on the 4th August as she shopped on Melrose Avenue with boyfriend Chris Brown. Last week, Cassie was seen sporting one on the 12th August when she attended Vibe Magazine's 15th anniversary party in New York City. And Amerie was spotted rocking one on the 16th August when she attended the 3rd Annual Hot In Hollywood event which took place at Avalon in Hollywood, California:
And as usual, it was Rihanna who took the lead but nonetheless, all three chicks looked the business. Amerie looked great as she took a break from recording her fourth studio album on Def Jam. The event was to benefit HIV/AIDS and was also attended by R&B starlet Teairra Mari. Both chicks are expected to drop brand new albums at the top of next year.

R&B SINGERS OUT & ABOUT.....
Solange Knowles attended a taping of MTV's FNMTV yesterday at Ren-Mar Studios in Hollywood, where she premiered her second video 'Sandcastle Disco':
The 22-year-old made her directorial debut with the vid to Sandcastle Disco which was written by Cee-Lo and produced by Soulshock & Karlin. The full vid will premiere TOMORROW when the show is aired. Somebody at the taping managed to recapture a short clip which you can check out here. The vid looks like a winner so far. I'm liking the dancing on the piano concept. It's the second single taken from her sophomore release, SoL-AngeL & The Hadley St. Dreams, due on August 26th. Her pal Michelle Williams also attended the taping.
This week, Letoya Luckett attended the 3rd Annual Ozone Awards in her native Houston, Texas:
Damn Toya. It looks like she's had more work done to her face. I can't believe how pretty she was in Destiny's Child to how she looks right now. She is one step away from looking like Lil Kim. Not a good look at all.

BRAND NEW AMERIE PROMO.....
A brand new Amerie promo picture surfaced on the Amerie boards earlier today. Amerie, who signed to Def Jam recently, has been in the studio recording her fourth studio album:
Amerie is looking beautiful. I'm hearing that she'll have a single out before the end of the year. I hope her new album is as good as 'Because I Love It'. That album was sooo hot but yet slept on. BADLY. Let's just hope Def Jam don't screw up.

R&B SINGERS OUT & ABOUT.....
Earlier this week, Amerie attended and co-hosted a party in Atlanta with the NFL's Deon Grant:
The singer performed throughout the night and chilled with Chilli of TLC fame and her new label mate Ne-yo. Now that Amerie is officially signed to Def Jam I expect to see a lot of her and Ne-yo at the same events in the coming months. Amerie is also using Atlanta as her main base for recording her new album I'm told, with producers such as Bryan Micheal Cox, Adonis, Wyldcard as well as Ne-yo. She also did some new work with producer No ID some weeks back.
Ashanti hit up the 2008 ESPY Awards Wednesday night in an interesting style of dress:
Not feeling it. But she HAS been looking good over the last couple of weeks though. I'll admit that.
Fergie and Justin Timberlake also hit up that very same event:
JT was trying to be the funny man that he thinks he is, but he should leave it to Mike Myers. Fergie got on stage with 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland. I can't wait for season 7 next year. They've resurrected Tony from the dead (who has gone over to the dark side it seems). This has never really happened before. Interesting. I wonder what the producers have up their sleeve this time.
Kelly Rowland continued to make the most of her 'UK citizenship'. She was spotted at the Lotus 'Project Eagle' celebrity unveiling at the London Transport Museum on Wednesday:

AMERIE PERFORMS 'GHETTO SUPERSTAR' WITH PRAS @ 2008 AFI AWARDS....

EXACTLY one month ago, Amerie performed Pras Michel's 1998 smash 'Ghetto Supastar'. She stepped in presumably because Mya (the original singer) couldn't be there to do the performance. In this post, I DID say that when the performance becomes available I would post it, so here it is:
The star-studded audience seemed to enjoy the performance. The performance was in honour of actor Warren Beatty. I also remember saying in that very post that I didn't think Amerie would be able to pull off the song but she did quite good. Amerie, who signed to Def Jam recently, is currently recording her fourth studio album to be released next year.

Last night, Amerie attended a 'Fashion Votes' event which was hosted by designer Nanette Lepore, actress Kerry Washington and The Creative Coalition in Los Angeles, CA:
Amerie has been on the wrong side of the fashion stakes lately so she certainly wouldn't have got my vote, but she was looking totally fab yesterday.

CELEB SPOTTINGS: R&B SINGERS OUT & ABOUT....
Singers Esmee Denters (left) and Chris Brown (right) posed it up with designer Kira Plastinina at her clothing line launch party in Los Angeles last night:
Esme Denters is a Dutch 19-year-old singer who is signed to Justin Timberlake's label Tennman Records. She is a YouTube phenomena who received worldwide recognition after singing many hit songs on the popular video site, from today's biggest chart toppers; Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Natasha Bedingfield and of course JT himself. Esme's debut album is expected to be released later on in the year. On the forthcoming project, she has worked with Timbaland, Royal Court and The Clutch as well as Jim Beanz. Look out for 2 tracks 'Closer' and 'Lonely Sunday' off her album both produced and co-written by Beanz. Other R&B singers who attended the event included Jojo, Raven-Symoné and Amerie. On the forthcoming project, she's writing all of her own songs: "You know I'm not 13 anymore. Although I'd have preferred a lil more colour to her outfit she looked cute. It looks like she's losing weight as well. As nice as her new album was, Raven Symone is on the verge of getting dropped after only selling about 7,500 copies since its release on April 29th. The album got zero promotion. Shame.

Yesterday was the first public appearance since it was officially reported that Amerie had signed to Def Jam. The singer attended and performed at the 36th AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood last night:
In honour of actor Warren Beatty, she took Mya's place in performing her hit 1998 single 'Ghetto Supastar' with former Fugees rapper Pras. Okay, this is ONE performance I need to see, because I don't think anyone else's vocals were fitting for that song but Mya's. I mean, isn't Amerie a high soprano? (correct me if I'm wrong). Once the performance becomes available I'll post it.
Alicia Keys looked simply ravishing when she attended the 'We Are Together' HBO documentary premiere last night at the Director's Guild of America in New York:
That's sure is a lot of tan lotion Alicia has on. At the event, Alicia says she'd like to be the next Anjelina Jolie and adopt: "I've always loved kids. Kids are so important. It's important to nurture and spend time with them and listen to them. I'm not ready to be a mom. But (adoption) is something that is important to consider. That's what I really admire about Angelina. I think it's beautiful the way she embraces children of the world." And she insists she would like to create a family of different cultures, like Jolie: "We are all one. We're not as separate as we oftentimes think. So I possibly would (adopt), when I'm more in the motherhood stage of my life." I'm mad as fuck she's ending her album with Superwoman.
Ashanti did further promo for new album The Declaration this week on MTV's TRL, where she also sang latest single The Way That I Love You:
Ashanti's outfit would look cute on someone like Amerie or Nicole Scherzinger, someone who has a much smaller frame. When you have the type of thighs Ashanti has, the shorts should not even be attempted. Her hair would have been nice if the fringe wasn't so big. I hope her numbers don't see a huge drop and that her album ends up being a steady climber.

Once again, Solange was on the show to talk about her single 'I Decided' and forthcoming album 'SoL-AngeL & The Hadley Street Dreams'. She looked good for Solange. I wasn't feeling her hair or the dress.
Mel B attended the "Dancing With The Stars" photocall at the 2008 Monte Carlo Television Festival:

Mashonda looks stressed. I mean with the breakdown of her marriage to R&B producer Swizz Beatz, that's understandable. Rumour mill has it that her man was messing with Alicia Keys which is what caused the break-up. Mashonda has recently spoken about what she thinks of Alicia: "[Alicia Keys] is her own woman and she has made her own choices. I don't have a problem with her. I will say this though, I am not a scorned woman. I have a responsibility to raise [my son], he's my number one priority and everyday I strive more for him and of course my music". Damn. Did she really just call out Ms Keys? The squeaky-clean Ms Keys? Consider that image damaged goods here on out.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: AMERIE HAS SIGNED TO DEF JAM....
For the past couple of months, it was widely rumoured that Amerie had left Columbia and signed a new record deal with Def Jam (whose roster includes big names such as Rihanna, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson). Now it's official: The 1 Thing hitmaker has parted ways with Columbia Records and inked a deal with Def Jam, the company that secured the massive track Umbrella for Rihanna last year (07), catapulting her to global fame. The singer has been recording her fourth album and has gone into the studio with Pharrell Williams amongst one of the many producers she has crafted for the upcoming project. When the 28-year-old attended In Touch Weekly's Summer Stars party last month, she said that she would be taking more of a backseat in writing on this album than on her previous album and that she may very well be participating in just the co-writing side. I'm glad she's no longer with Columbia. I mean there's only one artist that Columbia cares about and that's You-Know-Who. It will certainly take some wizardry magic to get that label to give other artists some proper promo. I don't even know why they're wasting people's time giving Kelly Rowland another album - at least Amerie did the decent thing by breaking away (reportedly, she's been trying to get off Columbia for some time now). Good for her. I hope they do right by her. Because I Love It which was released in Europe and not Stateside, was hot. Matter of fact, it was one of my favourite albums of 2006.

CELEB SPOTTINGS: R&B SINGERS OUT & ABOUT....
As most of you have noticed, updates have been slow I know. Stop buggin', lol. It's just that things have been hectic as of late but bear with me. Things should be back to normal shortly. This week, Kelly Rowland attended MTV's Xbox Party which took place in Sydney, Australia:

Ashanti is on course to sell only 80,000 copies of her new album The Declaration which was released on Tuesday. For all the promotion she's been doing I expected her to have higher sales. I know she's been on the decline with each album but damn. This is evident that no one cares anymore. No wonder she's talking about putting music at the backburner to concentrate on a full time acting career. I guess folks been over her and 2002 will never come back. Kelly Rowland has been ragged on for over a year for selling EXACTLY that amount. Now Ashanti has joined the club.
She also attended the Ring The Opening Bell at The NYSE in NY this week:

It's a shame all this promotion isn't paying off, especially since The Declaration isn't a bad album. I guess albums no longer sell on the merit of quality. So she can wave goodbye to her singing career. At least she's got her songwriting to fall back on.

In the UK singles chart, Rihanna is also enjoying a second week at the top spot with Take A Bow.

Aw! Look at Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z getting their dance-on as they celebrated their nuptials in Cannes alongside good pal Diddy. It was another day of partying for Diddy as the Vodka stayed swilling:
Beyonce was also spotted sipping on champaign that night deadening any rumours that she's expecting her first child. It looks like they were enjoying themselves to Beyonce's 'Get Me Bodied', lol. Beyonce's hair looks like it could be real - what a rarity! Nice length and that but her hair is really thin, like Janet Jackson's. I can see why she consistently rocks lace fronts. Anyway, a party simply isn't a party unless a catchy dance track like Get Me Bodied is blaring out of those speakers.
Yesterday, TMZ reported that Sean Combs was not paying homage to the $100 million he was paid for a contract endorsement with Ciroc Vodka. If anything Diddy was photographed at many parties this week swilling everything BUT Ciroc Vodka:
Knowing that Diddy had put himself in hot water, he quickly released a statement through his his current publicist Kwasi Asare. In part the statement said: 'Entertainment powerhouse, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, today announced that he has given up champagne and tequila. "When I reach for a drink, I reach for Ciroc Vodka" the Bad Boy CEO was quoted as saying. The statement also furiously denied that Diddy was "reveling with other brands" yet, pictures showed Diddy, well, "reveling with other brands". That said, Cannes was definitely the hot spot as of late.

So it looks like the duet really is going ahead. This is bound to be interesting. You know I'm looking forwards to that. Outside of hard work, it's good the two of them could find time to be playful and not take each other too seriously which is how a relationship should be.
